Minnie Mouse Madness!

My little girl turned 2 on Sunday. We had such a good time! Taylor absolutely LOVES Mickey and Minnie Mouse so we decided to throw her a Minnie themed party. I then began googling Mickey Mouse cake images to get some inspiration.

First of all- I am NOT a baker. I love to cook- but I really am not a huge fan of baking cakes. They always cave in- or I dont buy enough frosting- whatever. But my mom gave me so good tips...so I attempted the Minnie Mouse birthday cake.

I started out with two 9" round cake pans and two 6" round cake pans. I put parchment paper on the bottoms and greased it really good so they wouldnt stick. I made 2 of the big cakes and 4 of the small cakes. This required 3 cake mix boxes and 3 cans and 1 tube of frosting. (yes I still had to go to the store at 9 at night and buy more frosting...)

Yes, I am 7 months pregnant and this is a fabulous view of my belly... I found a straight-on pic of Mickey's face and began "drawing" the face with black frosting. I wanted to outline and frost ONLY where I wanted the black part of Minnie's face and ears because I wanted to cover it with crushed Oreos. That way, I wouldn't get black crumbs on the tan part of her face.

--Black frosting before the crushed Oreos: After crushed Oreos:
I like how it makes the ears look fuzzy. I then frosted the face part and drew on the features with frosting. I made a cute bow with ribbon and fabric glue.

We brushed off the extra Oreo crumbs with a basting brush. We had a little bit of extra cake batter left, so we decided to make minnie polka dots with a minnie muffin pan. (Adrienne's idea)

This is the finished cake

Happy Birthday Taylor!!
