I love to shop at the DI. Its hit and miss - but so satisfying to find that one amazing thing.
Well, its usually not that amazing when you first spot it...
Take this lamp for example. Its awful, right? I was embarrassed walking around the store with it. I stuck my cute little girl next to it so you can see how tall it is. You can't see the price tag- but it says $4.

So loaded it in the car and took it home. The lamp shade was stained and bent, so i just chucked it. I pulled off all the hardware and pulled the cords and lighting kit out.

I had some leftover red spray paint and black tinted glaze from my chair refinishing project (more about that later), so this project only cost the $4 I paid at the DI. Here is the finished project.

oh wow! you have got a great eye! that turned out so cool. how ever did you think that would work that way? i would have just passed it by as an ugly lamp.
