I got this bit of inspiration from my friend Jill. I saw her hall and had to try it! So different and visually interesting. I love the way it turned out!
So, I already had EVERYTHING here. I didn't have to buy one thing, that was the best part. But if you want to do this and don't already have the items check out the thrift stores or the dollar store. Find wood frames, metal frames, candle holders, shelves, vinyl etc.. Remember there is ALWAYS spray paint! So if you find something with potential, paint it! You want it to be a little bit of organized chaos. So put in whatever you want!!
You don't have to use just pictures of your family. Add in some scenic pictures as well. I used one of Venice that my husband took. If I had a bigger wall I would have added the ones he took of the Colosseum in Rome. AMAZING!
Be sure to use some shelving and sconces to add something visually different. Use something to add texture too. A plant or flower works well.

Here's some different angles. It was hard to get a good picture because it's close quarters in my hall. :)

Arrange it on the floor underneath the wall you want to start hanging on. Then when you start hanging just start at one end and take one piece at a time.

Notice the colors I used on all the big stuff; black, brown and white. I wanted it pretty neutral with little pops of colors coming from the pictures themselves. I chose pictures with pops of blue. The "S" I had was already blue so I just worked off that.
The car and my husbands shirt both really stand out in these pictures.

....we made it awhile back. I don't have a picture tutorial but they were really simple. They are made out of crown molding. Just cut, nail (gun), and paint! Then hang your hardware on the back so you can hang it on the wall.
Here are some pictures from my old house and how I used them in there....
These 3 were in my dining room. I painted them the color of my baseboards and then painted a brown mat in the middle of each. I then hung a sconce in the middle of each. Kind of an understated, unique piece of art.
